Janka Hardness Scale for Woods

The Janka Scale is the industry-standard measurement for wood hardness, specifically its resistance to denting. All of the woods we offer are durable, long-lasting hardwoods, so this metric might carry more weight with some people than it does with others. A good way to think of this wood hardness information is to take it in context that some woods will dent, ding, or distress more easily than others. We hope this info is helpful in making your desk top decision.

Technical details of the Janka Hardness Score Test:
The test measures the force needed to embed a .444” diameter steel ball halfway into a piece of wood. This would create a hemispherical indentation in the wood. The unit of measurement is pounds-force (lbf).
